Cicret Bracelet Turns Your Skin Into a Touchscreen

I just have to share this new discovery. The Cicret Bracelet, which turns your arm into a touchscreen.

See for yourself below

visuel_bracelet_2

The Cicret comes with an embedded memory card, processor, accelerometer, vibrator, USB port, Bluetooth functionality, and Wi-Fi, but the main part is a pico-projector and an array of proximity sensors.

The projector allows the armband to beam the screen down onto the users arm, with the proximity sensors tracking finger movement to enable interaction with the content.

The video below demonstrates a mockup and gives an idea how Cicret will be realized

Although this project is not presented on Kickstarted, the team behind Cicret has a page http://www.cicret.com/wordpress/ where they are collecting donations. The team needs 700 00o euros.
So far they’ve reached only 14%, but I really hope they’ll succeed. So we can all buy this bracelet someday.

Running a Social Media Job Searching Campaign

Following success of my last year’s social media campaign, I’m looking for a job using social media once again.

I’m using Facebook Ads, and mine looks like this

Screen shot 2013-05-20 at 13.05.24

I might use Twitter as well, just to get some publicity.

This time I’m looking for a permanent job, it can start with an internship, I don’t mind. As long as there are clear prospects.
I want to work in tech industry on the marketing side.

Please find my CV here and Email here

I have experience in PR, digital advertising, and social media. And the most important part is that I’m crazy about tech.

Preferably I need a job based in London, but if it’s something truly amazing I can relocate.

You can find  ways of contacting me here and some of my takes on recent developments in tech, marketing, and others.

I really hope this venture will work out.

As I did last year, I will blog about all developments and results of the campaign.

So please contant me with interesting offers or just for support.

Buzzfeed, Marketing and ‘Everyone is Crazy’

I love Buzzfeed, I really do. They have cute animals, some stuff about daily life, celebrities, even political journalism, and Ryan Gosling, of course.

But the most important thing is that they collect data on how people view and share their posts. People behind Buzzfeed with this data can predict, to some extent, what things will go viral or not. Their another main advantage is emphasis not as much on the content, but how people will share it later.

I think this is exactly where marketing misses out these days.

In the recent presentation at Techcruch Disrupt NY 2013,  Jonah Peretti, Founder and CEO of BuzzFeed, explained why people like to see pics of cats and dogs and every other animals, like all the time. The reason is “It’s about being human,” said Peretti.

Peretti explained that emotion is part of being a human, and if you don’t feel emotion, you’re probably not a very normal human.

But why is this even important? Well, for one, social media isn’t just about gaming the system. It’s about emotions.

We use social media to project our version of social reality and maintain a virtual identity. Peretti referred specifically to a picture of a left-handed artist’s hand that was shared millions of times on BuzzFeed. Pic just showed the pencil lead smeared across his hand in true left-handed fashion.

“This photo was shared so many times because it involves identity. Left-handed people feel something for this picture.”  Just like we project these pieces of our identity (and thus, our emotions) into the Internet on a daily basis, we also consume social media content based on emotion as well.

And here is the actual presentation.

Customizable Merica Made Bottle Opener

Here is another cool Kickstarted campaign Customizable Bottle Openers made in America.

The main aim of the  project is to make a billet aluminum bottle opener that is manufactured in the USA.

In order to differentiate this opener from million of others, this Merica Made has the customization factor and level of quality that is unmatched. There have been many bottle openers to come and go, but how cool it is to have a personal opener with your name on it.

Makers use CNC machining technology to achieve the highest possible quality.

For now the goal of the campaign is $6000, so it would become possible to  provide openers in green, purple, orange, and gold to existing colors, and also add 3 more standard design logos.

The biggest challenge of production right now is material and equipment. But with certain funds these guys can get production running. They have more than a month to achieve the goal and if you want to help them, then back their campaign here.

7 Qualities That Make a Real Entrepreneur

Just found a great article on what it really means to be an entrepreneur.
According to Inc. magazine and this recent article, entrepreneurs are unique, willing to take risks,
and run a successful business or two or more.

There are many people who start businesses, but only few succeed.
So here are 7 qualities of real entrepreneurs:

1. They defy characterization. You really have to get to know these people, work with them for years, maybe even get inside their heads a bit, to understand what they’re really all about. There are all unique, not like one another and they are the real deal.  They know that wearing a black mock turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers doesn’t make you Steve Jobs.

2. Money means little to them. It’s sort of ironic how little money matters to those who are true entrepreneurs at heart. For them, money is just a means to an end. And since money’s not a distraction or a temptation, they can truly focus on what really counts: doing what drives them, what they’re passionate about.

3. They’re on a mission from God. No, they’re not really. But when they speak about their vision or idea, you’d swear they’ve been possessed by some sort of demon that, instead of inciting chaos and mischief, inspires innovation and creation. There’s definitely an aspect of fanaticism in their zeal for whatever has captured their imagination. y.

4. They don’t take risks for the sake of taking risks. Just as they don’t set out to make money, true entrepreneurs don’t usually set out to take risks, either. They just don’t let anything stand in the way of whatever it is they’re driven to do.

5. They weren’t born that way. Most of the successful entrepreneurs  started with nothing or at least from modest beginnings. Some had parents who did their own thing, but most didn’t. They usually had mentors or people who inspired them to trust their gut and have confidence in themselves. T

6. They’re not iconic leaders. The entrepreneur as iconic leader is a myth. Successful founders usually have partners. Bill Gates had Paul Allen and Steve Ballmer. Steve Jobs had Steve Wozniak. Larry Page had Sergey Brin. Also, entrepreneurs are often better at founding and creating than they are at running and sustaining companies.

7. They’re not very patient. Whoever said patience is a virtue was definitely not a VC or anyone in the startup business, for that matter. Successful entrepreneurs don’t usually care much for social convention. They have little patience for convention. They don’t want to hear how things are done, have been done, or should be done. They do things their way. But here’s a twist.

In general, it does not take all these qualities to build a successful business, but you need these qualities to build something unique, something that will stay for generations, something epic.

Polling Apps: Polar and Thumb

Once again I wanted to show new cool apps. And here today is an app Polar that lets you rate anything in seconds. To some extent,  it’s an object lesson in mobile design done very, very right.

Quick, which one do you prefer: Lucas or Spielberg? LOFTR or Harry Potter? Murray or Federer? But not just you can express your opinion in seconds, but you can create own polls.

FastCompany says that designer Luke Wroblewski has built an entire app around this vacuous-yet-addictive experience, Polar is a work of mobile-design genius.

1671536-inline-1-polar-app

“We chose to do a consumer thing, a fun thing, to put our ideas into action,” Wroblewski says. “So far we’ve gotten great results. People can get in, get out, and get value instantly. We’re starting to rethink polls. But once you understand this medium, you can start to rethink everything.”

Anyway, the app provides amazing database with first hand opinions, which can be easily used from politics to what to wear tonight.

But this app is not the only one of its kind. Another one called Thumb, provides the same services, but with less design features. When Polar presents polls for anything, Thumb provides more personal platform. This videos shows how it works.

Screen shot 2013-01-27 at 12.50.14

Thumb provides feedback for people on anything, and creators guarantee at lest 50 responses with each new poll.

I’m sure there are more polling and voting apps, maybe even with better design and interface, but they all point toward a new trend, where people want to get instant feedback from strangers and not just friends.
